Fitness Apps I Use
Long before I started running, like most fitness-junkie-wannabes, I have quite a number of applications installed in my phone. But, I never really used them, and they were just there, using up precious space in my phone memory. I even have a few applications that supposed to show me gym exercises, yoga exercise, and so on and so forth.
But there is one app that, I am proud to say, actually made me start running. Being into The Walking Dead, my co-workers and I would make fun by saying that if we were trapped in an alternate universe with a reality of a zombie apocalypse, we'd all be fit from running away from the zombies.
Check the apps out after the jump.
1. Zombies, Run!
This has got to be the most motivating game/fitness app that I have ever used.
Imagine hearing those guttural noises of zombies getting closer and closer to you as you run desperately away from them.
*Shudders*
The first time I tried this app, I turned on the Zombies Chase setting and ended up as Zombie food. It's got a GPS tracker that can track (duh!) your speed, so better speed up when it says so.
Really though, after this app kick start my running habit, I never looked back or was lazy again.
2. Zombies 5k
*Sigh*
The first app proved to be a little difficult to beat when the Zombies Chase setting was on, so I opted to get this next app.
I love this app. Period. I'm not a "proper runner". I just run. I don't follow a strict regimen like most runners. I just run to sweat, get my cardio workout and probably lose a little weight.
It has actual training stuff, with videos and links to help you get in the right form. As your training as a runner for the town of Abel progresses, the training time lengthens and along with that, your endurance shows progress too.
3. Nike+ Running
I run this app whenever I go on runs in the background. It gives me audio notifications about the distance I've run and my average pace. And it keeps track of all of my runs.
It's a useful GPS tool too. Being a public engineer, it roughly estimates how far I've walked or the distance from one point to another whenever surveys are necessary.
Last time I used this app, I ran uphill with a couple of friends, and my normal distance was halved.
This must be the simplest running app that even a novice can use.
4. Nike Training Club
Never ever run without stretching. That's one thing I learned the hard way. The first time I tried running, I was so excited and lazy that I just started sprinting.
Ten, no, five, minutes later, I was ready to puke my lungs out and my legs were ready to give out. The next day, I could barely make it up the stairs at work.
Really, DO NOT SKIP STRETCHING.
This app had loads of work outs that you can follow and even a stretching guide by gymnast Shawn Johnson.
Just in case you don't know Shawn Johnson, she's a retired American gymnast, at age 21. Try looking her up on Wikipedia so you can check her credibility.
No really, apps 3 and 4 are free, so download them to your heart's content and USE them. They really help. It's good to track your work outs so you can see how you're progressing
Do you have any other apps worth trying? Can you share some with me?
