Cutting Your Own Hair

No amount of hair moisturizer, whether oils or creams, and even hair masks can save the dryness of the tips of my hair. Well, that was to be expected, given the number of times I've dyed my hair and the way I avoided trims. I've recently just had my hair rebonded(?). And this is how my hair looked before.

Note: Don't be fooled by the Instagram filter. LOL

And this is how it looked after.

Yeah, pretty amazing. It makes hair a whole lot easier to manage and less time to get it to behave. I drive a motorcycle and the helmet just pushes my hair back from my forehead and gives me that really squiggly patch of hair there and around the neck. After the hair treatment, everything just seems so easy.

Now this might be a bad decision, but I missed having this red hair, so after another weekend, I decided to ruin the hair treatment by dyeing my own hair. This was the shade that I missed.

This type of color, unless you're a natural redhead, does not last. The red washes out eventually and then you'll have to touch it up a lot, which results in extremely dry hair. I didn't want red hair so bad that I kept dyeing it every time the color fades but it was enough to get me damaged tips. This is going to be the last time I dye my hair this color or any color for the next few years, because I want to see if I can still look nice without the extra self-esteem boost the color gives me. I kinda feel that black hair just doesn't suit me. I just look nicer with colored hair.

Just in case you're wondering about what I used for coloring my hair, here it is. Richenna Bubble Color Cream in Red Wine. This is a stock photo, so I didn't bother cropping out the others, just in case you liked their colors.

Anyway, back to our topic. Cutting your own hair is something that I would never recommend to someone who is afraid of scissors. You'll only either end up hurting yourself, or you'd cut off more hair than you intend to cut. I finally managed to get hair long enough for me to try practicing on so I got my scissors out and took a deep, a really, really, really deep breath, and started cutting.

The best part about cutting really long hair is that if you mess up a little, it's not that noticeable. So I cut away all the dead, dry ends, and was a little worried that I might have cut a little too much, but I guess not. My hair still reaches below the bra line, so it's fine. I can't get anyone to take a picture of the outcome, maybe tomorrow when I've shampooed and conditioned.

Oh and here's the video that I referred to. I found it the most useful one among the others. I skipped the straightening part since my hair was straight due to the rebonding process.
