Smart Bro Canopy versus Smart Bro Sim + Huawei E5331

For broadband services, I subscribed to Smart Bro. I actually signed up for the canopy-type, the one that service guys stick to a pole on your roof and try to get good signal. This is how it looks like:

If your area has plenty of trees, then you are going to have a hard time. I'm pretty sure you've seen one of these around in your neighborhood. That's what we have on top of our roof right now. So that's my home connection. When I go to work, I always have my pocket modem with me. I had my boyfriend buy me a modem from SM City Cebu, instead of buying the network-locked modem, and put in a Smart Bro sim card. The main reason why I bought an unlocked modem is, so that I can use whatever network sim performs better in whatever area I go to. In Cebu, Globe performs well in Mabolo, and in Zamboanga, Smart performs better.

I would still prefer Smart than Globe for broadband services, because when they say unlimited, they really mean it. Unlike Globe, you can't go beyond 800MB worth of data use. That means, you can't watch too much Youtube or download umm, *whispers* files.

I was too lazy to take a picture of my modem, but here's how it looks like:

I popped in a Smart Bro sim card and subscribed to their unlimited Internet promo. This makes work so much bearable plus I can work on other jobs during lunch hour. Earlier, I decided  to run a test between my home Internet and the pocket Internet. Here are the results:

Smart Bro Canopy (Home Internet) @ 10:12 PM
Smart Bro sim card + Huawei E5331 @ 10:15PM
Well, as you can see, just my 3G sim card did a WHOLE LOT BETTER than the canopy. And it doesn't even need to be in the line of sight of a transmission tower. Since LTE's finally made it to the Philippines, I'm just waiting for my LTE sim card to come in the mail and I'll be posting some reviews about it soon! By the way, it's going to be a prepaid LTE sim card from Smart again, because only Smart offers a prepaid LTE sim card.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Smart and Globe. I am just a regular paying customer letting people know about my personal views of the products and services that I use.
