Customer Service in Zamboanga
I once worked as a call center agent in Cebu City. As such, we were required to provide world-class service to customers all over the world. To keep our jobs, we were required to be kind to customers, to always keep in mind that the customer is always right, no what. When you turn down a customer, make sure that you are doing it for something bigger than a customer.
A few weeks after I arrived in Zamboanga, I went grocery shopping. I had a small plastic bag which had one item in it. I could've stuffed it in my pocket, but I didn't, because I didn't want a bulging pocket. So I strolled into the supermarket, when all of a sudden, in the rudest possible way,
"Pssst, psst, pssst!!!"
I turned around and the female security guard was definitely talking me down, telling me to check my plastic bag at the baggage counter.I wouldn't have been offended if she hadn't treated me like a criminal, I mean, I know they were only doing their jobs, but assuming everyone is a shop lifter is no way of giving customer service, nor is it right. So anywhere I go, personnel in local establishments were either ruder or pretty much the same. I could almost see what they were thinking in a bubble over their heads:
"We don't need you, we always have more customers. Losing you won't give us a loss."
But ah, that's exactly how you lose all your customers. I can open my own business and compete with yours. I just have to treat the same customers a whole lot better and you'd be out of business. Sure, it will take some time, but you'd still be out of business, and I'd be at the top of that business. The employees here do not smile, make you feel like you're an annoyance when you come in for some service, and looks at you with distrust.
But just when I was ready to give up on finding any good service here, I found the kind of service that any customer deserves.
Globe, Jollibee and McDonald's. These are just three establishments that I frequent. I'm not much for fastfood, but when you need something edible really quick, fastfood's the way to go. You just have to work double hard to get rid of that Cheeseburger.
These three haven't failed my expectations on giving good customer service yet, and I am hoping that they never do.
